Philadelphia Eagles Work Out Ex-Steelers Punter Braden Mann

The NFL season is just five days away and the Philadelphia Eagles still don’t have a punter on the 53-man roster.

That could change soon, however, as the team has brought in several punters to try out for the starting job.

Most recently, the Eagles brought in former Pittsburgh Steelers punter Braden Mann for a workout on Monday. Mann was linked to the Eagles in the offseason and there were even some rumors that he might be traded to Philly.

Philadelphia placed a waiver for Mann but it was eventually awarded to the Steelers. While Mann initially made the Steelers’ 53-man roster, he was eventually let go and has been given permission to visit teams.

Mann was in the midst of a preseason battle with Presley Harvin III and was the odd man out despite a strong training camp. The former New York Jets punter shined in the Steelers’ preseason finale versus the Atlanta Falcons and is coming off of the best year of his NFL career.

In 2022, Mann downs a career-best 27 punts inside the 20 and averaged a net of 40.6 yards per punt, tying a career-high mark.

Could Philadelphia Enter The Regular Season Without A Punter?

As we noted before, the Eagles cuts may have been strategic and it’s entirely possible that beloved punter Arryn Sippos will be elevated to the team’s starter for Week 1.

With that being said, Howie Roseman and company have not left any stone unturned in their current search to improve at the position.

The team also worked out Blake Gilliken and Pat O’Donnell as they continue to look for upgrades.

For now though, it seems like Sippos will be the most likely option, as the Eagles open up the regular season on Sunday in New England against the Pats.
