Eagles vs Patriots: Who Are The Worst Week 1 QBs Against The Spread?

The Philadelphia Eagles will attempt to avoid a Super Bowl hangover on the road in Foxboro, as they open the 2023 NFL season with a battle versus the New England Patriots.

The Patriots will be commemorating future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady with a pregame ceremony, which should bring back some fond memories for Eagles fans.

Philadelphia will enter Week 1 focused on getting back to the NFL Playoffs. The Eagles will be 4.0-point favorites on the road in New England in what is expected to be a low-scoring game.

Mac Jone Is The Worst QB Against The Spread In Week 1

John Ewing, a data analyst for BetMGM, revealed an interesting stat ahead of the Eagles trip to Foxboro.

New England elected to come out of training camp with just one quarterback: former first-round pick Mac Jones.

The Patriots have since traded for Matt Corral, a former Carolina Panthers’ third-round pick to be Jones’ backup.

Despite head coach Bill Belichick’s unwavering confidence in Jones, the Patriots QB has one key stat working against him versus the Eagles in Week 1.

Jones will enter the season as the NFL’s worst active quarterback against the spread in season-opening games. Jones is 0-2-0 in his career thus far and is actually the only experienced starter who has never covered the spread in Week 1.

Worst Active Quarterbacks Against The Week 1 Spread

Jones has some company near the bottom of the list.

Baker Mayfield is next with a career 1-3 record against the spread in Week 1, followed by Russell Wilson (4-6-1) and Kirk Cousins (3-5-0).

The Patriots will open the 2023 regular season as home underdogs against the Eagles. Philadelphia is favored by four points on the road at BetMGM and DraftKings, two of the best sportsbooks in Pennsylvania.

Here are the worst quarterbacks against the spread in Week 1, according to BetMGM.

  • Mac Jones: 0-2 ATS
  • Baker Mayfield: 1-3 ATS
  • Russell Wilson: 4-6-1 ATS
  • Kirk Cousins: 3-5 ATS
