The Philadelphia Eagles announced the 2023-24 team captains ahead of the Week 1 battle versus the New England Patriots on Sunday.

In total, Philadelphia named nine captains — five offensive players, three defensive players, and one member of the special teams unit. The Eagles have a number of veterans on both sides of the ball and the list is filled with notable names as a result.
Jalen Hurts, Darius Slay, and Jake Elliott will serve as the primary team captains. Meanwhile, wide receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith will join Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson among the team’s offensive captains. On the other side of the ball, Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox will represent the defensive side of the ball.

Brown, Smith Voted Captains For The First Time In Their Careers
Both AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith were among the team captains voted in by their fellow teammates.
One of the NFL’s top wide receiver duos, Brown and Smith will be key proponents of the Eagles’ offense in 2023, especially following the departure of running back Miles Sanders.
Not necessarily known for his leadership, Brown has become a terrific teammate in Philadelphia and recently lauded Smith’s ability to be a top-tier wide receiver in the league.
Eagles Captains List Features Familiar Faces
Several players on the Eagles have been named team captains before.
Leading the way, Kelce and Cox have earned the nod six times in their career. Brandon Graham is next on the list after being voted team captain for the fifth time in his career.
Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts has been named captain three times while Slay, Lane Johnson, and Jake Elliott have now earned the distinction twice.
