The Athletic released its NFL stadium rankings on Monday and Philadelphia Eagles fans will not be happy with the results.
The Athletic asked 30 of its writers to rank their top five and bottom five NFL stadiums, in order. Minnesota’s U.S. Bank Stadium topped the list and it wasn’t even close with half of voters choosing the Vikings home as the No.1 stadium to visit in the NFL.
Lincoln Financial Field opened on August 3, 2003, so it’s not quite as new as several of the top destinations on the list. Predictably, the Dallas Cowboys had the best stadium to visit among NFC East teams. However, the Eagles were a distant second.
Embarrassingly for football fans in New York, MetLife Stadium, the home of the Giants and Jets, ranked 25th on the list despite being built just 13 years about for $1.6 billion. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders were ranked to have the league’s worst stadium at FedEx Field.
How Did The Eagles’ Stadium Come Up Short?
Here’s what The Athletic had to say about Lincoln Financial Field.
15. Lincoln Financial Field
Team: Philadelphia Eagles
Seating capacity: 67,594
Google review: 4.6 stars
The home of the Eagles since 2003 fell six spots from our previous ranking.
“This season is the 20th anniversary of Lincoln Financial Field, so what was once considered state-of-the-art is now considered more industry standard,” Eagles reporter Zach Berman wrote. “That makes the ranking reasonable enough when considering some of the new facilities that opened in recent years and the sentimental value attached to some of the iconic venues. The Eagles have made upgrades to the stadium in recent years and it’s still a fun place for fans to watch a game — if you’re wearing green, that is. Its proximity to major highways make it an easy stadium for commuters, and the surrounding parking lots provide a robust tailgate scene.”
