Eagles Can Form Taylor-Swift Backfield With Jonathan Taylor Trade

The Indianapolis Colts have granted running back Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade ahead of the team’s joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles. Taylor has endured a nightmarish offseason in Indianapolis that included a public feud with owner Jim Irsay.

CBS Sports radio host Zach Gelb named the Eagles among three potential teams that immediately come to mind as possible destinations for the disgruntled star.

Eagles Can Create The Ultimate ‘Taylor-Swift’ Backfield

Move over Swifties, the Eagles have a chance to create the ultimate backfield in 2023.

If Philadelphia makes a move for Taylor, he will join the likes of D’Andre Swift, Kenny Gainwell, and Rashaad Penny in the Eagles’ backfield.

That will give the Eagles the rare ability to form a backfield duo of Taylor-Swift, paying tribute to the iconic pop star.

Of course, Swift fully confirmed herself as an Eagles’ fan while performing at Lincoln Financial Field earlier this year.

Five Reasons An Eagles Trade For Jonathan Taylor Might Work

Some Eagles beat reporters jumped at the possibility of adding Taylor to the Eagles’ roster

Shortly after the news broke, Eliot Shorr-Parks had this to say on his X account, “Obviously they need him. They don’t have an RB1. Taylor is a player defenses worry about and makes the life of other players on offense easier. They don’t have that currently.”

However, there are a few things playing in the Eagles’ favor.

Here are a few reasons that a Jonathan Taylor trade is a legitimate possibility for Philadelphia.

  • If traded, the Colts are likely to move Taylor out of the AFC
  • Head coach Nick Sirianni has a history with Taylor
  • Philadelphia has a good relationship with Indianapolis
  • Taylor would have a chance to win a Super Bowl & put up big numbers
  • Howie Roseman isn’t afraid to take chances

Is Philadelphia Willing To Pay Taylor With A New Contract?

The biggest barrier to Philadelphia trading for Taylor is the running back’s desire for a new contract.

Taylor reportedly wants to be paid like a top-five running back, which isn’t consistent with how the franchise has valued the position in recent history.

However, with the opportunity to potentially compete for a Super Bowl, Taylor may be willing to delay the possibility of a new deal and bet on himself behind one of the league’s top offensive lines.
