The Philadelphia Eagles sat their starters versus the Cleveland Browns after a week of joint practices.
That opened up the door for backup Marcus Mariota to start in his home debut at Lincoln Financial Field.
Following a rough start to training camp, Mariota shined in the joint practices versus Cleveland, throwing five touchdowns and no interceptions.
However, all of that progress was erased on Thursday night, when he looked inaccurate under center, exhausting the patience of Eagles’ fans.
Mariota was booed off of the field after air-mailing an interception into the hands of Browns’ safety Ronnie Hickman Jr.
Though he returned to the game, the highlight wasn’t pretty.
Check out the throw below.
Mariota Stats vs Browns
Mariota would go on to finish the first half for Philadelphia.
He completed just 9 of 17 passes for only 85 yards (5.0 per attempt) with zero touchdowns and one interception. He also took two sacks to finish with a 42.5 passer rating.
In his first taste of preseason action versus the Ravens, Mariota wasn’t much better. He finished 7 of 11 passing for 58 yards but still managed to end with the highest passer rating (77.1) of any quarterback.
Eagles Fans React To Mariota’s Home Debut
Apparently, fans were not impressed with Mariota’s accuracy and they weren’t afraid to let him know it, both at the stadium and on Twitter.
Some Eagles fans even think that Mariota might have some trouble getting into the team facility tomorrow morning.
Others are reassessing the Falcons’ performance from a season ago.
Unfortunately for Mariota, criticism is something that might take some getting used to, especially if he doesn’t elevate his level of play soon.
