The Philadelphia Eagles will attempt to avoid a Super Bowl curse when they take on the New England Patriots at Foxboro Stadium in Week 1.
With the regular season around the corner, fans are placing their bets on the Eagles to win the Super Bowl. While most fans are happy to place friendly wagers, one person wasn’t afraid to bet on the house on the Eagles to return to the Super Bowl.
Blogger, influencer, and entrepreneur Shawn Cotton revealed via Twitter on Friday that he bet $175,000 on the Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC Championship.
Fans were quick to point out that luck hasn’t exactly been on Cotton’s side lately. He’s fresh off of losing his celebrity boxing debut against Sauce Woodwinnin.
Cotton is the owner of several different ventures, including SayCheeseTV, which is known for promoting undiscovered music artists. Cotton also works in real estate and owns properties across the nation, which has helped him add to his overall net worth.
A prominent figure on Twitter, Cotton is a longtime Eagles fan and has been pictured in an Eagles jersey several times before.
Will other Eagles fans follow Cotton’s lead?
Can Philadelphia Avoid The Super Bowl Curse?
Traditionally, losing in the Super Bowl has not been a good omen for the following season.
Only the 1971 Dallas Cowboys, 1972 Miami Dolphins, and 2018 New England Patriots have followed up a Super Bowl defeat with a Super Bowl win the following season.
Only three of the last 27 teams that finished as the runner-up in the Super Bowl went on to advance to the conference championship game the following season.
Additionally, 12 of the last 27 Super Bowl losers have failed to even make the playoffs. However, there have been several counter-examples over the past 15 years. Since 2010, 10 Super Bowl losers have made the postseason.
Could Cotton’s bet be in trouble?
