Is Kenny Gainwell Secured The Eagles’ New Starting Running Back?
With the Eagles’ preseason opener just a few days away, running back Kenny Gainwell appears to have secured the starting running back job heading out of training camp.
Following a strong postseason, Gainwell has had the most touches with the first-team offense and the second-most catches, indicating his potential to be an every-down back.
Meanwhile, D’Andre Swift has gotten less work as training camp has progressed. For now, it seems like Swift, who fans were excited about acquiring, will be used as a third-down back, at best.
Given his experience in Sirianni’s system, Scott’s position on the roster appears to be secure but figuring out where he fits into the Eagles’ crowded running back room could be something to monitor as the season moves along.
Of course, the Eagles’ backfield could turn into a true running back by committee with Sirianni choosing to go with the hot hand or healthiest option on a week-to-week basis.
