The Philadelphia Eagles caught a nice break ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
After suffering a thumb injury during training camp, leading pass rusher Haason Reddick is confident that he will be on the field in Week 1.
Reddick underwent thumb surgery to repair ligament damage in his right thumb earlier this month but told ESPN on Monday and he is ready to go for the season opener.
“It’s a thumb. Wrap it up. Go back out there and play ball,” Reddick said, via Tim McManus of ESPN.
Reddick Will Be Key To The Eagles Pass-Rush
A key component of the Eagles defense, Reddick was part of a unit that finished with 70 sacks last year, the second-most ever in a single season.
Despite playing for three teams in three years, the Eagles pass rusher managed to establish himself as one of the league’s premier pass-rushers. Over the past three seasons, Reddick has notched 39.5 sacks, the third-most in the NFL behind only Myles Garrett and TJ Watt.
In 2022, Reddick set a career-high with 16 sacks last season and added 3.5 more on the Eagles run to the Super Bowl.
That number could rise even higher this season, especially with the additions of Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith on defense.
Reddick Has Nothing Left To Prove
Even though Reddick signed a three-year extension worth $45 million, he’s arguably one of the most underpaid players on the Eagles defense.
According to Spotrac, he is tied for the 15th highest-paid edge rusher.
That doesn’t matter to Reddick though, who is only worried about being the best version of himself.
Earlier in training camp, the Eagles pass rusher told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he has nothing left to prove.
“At this point, I’m done talking like I have anything to prove to anybody,” he said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I’ve put enough work out there, I’ve put enough film out there, enough tape out there — that my play now speaks for itself. People can make their opinions off of that. I don’t have to second-guess myself.”
